Jinghan Qiao

Welcome — I’m Jinghan Qiao, an illustrator and picture-book maker!
I completed my BA at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China, followed by an MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art.

My journey began at the age of six, when I drew all over the white walls at home and got into trouble with my mum.That moment quietly set me on the path of learning to draw.

Over the past five years, from undergraduate study to postgraduate practice, I have focused on developing narrative and non-fiction picture books — a process that has been both joyful and deeply formative.I enjoy experimenting with materials and visual textures, particularly the interaction between different media such as fabric, acrylic, and collage.I’m especially interested in how material choices can shape tone, rhythm, and storytelling, and I adapt my visual approach flexibly to suit each project.

I have experience working on three published books, including both non-fiction and narrative picture books.Alongside these, my unpublished projects explore a wide range of themes and narrative structures.This breadth of practice allows me to approach new projects with confidence — shaping characters, visuals, and storytelling in ways that add clarity, warmth, and value to each book.
